Make the Annual Season Ticket to the Movies the Christmas Gift of 2010.

The Lovely Bones. Prince of Persia. Alice in Wonderland. Kick-Ass. Princess and the Frog. Clash of the Titans. The Bounty Hunter. These are just a few of the upcoming movies in cinemas this spring, and there are more to come during this summer and fall. These are movies in all different genres and for all ages. 2010 is going to be a great movie year, and 2011 is going to be even better! So, wouldn’t the best Christmas gift this year be an Annual Season Ticket to the Movies?

Just think of all the movies that are going to have their premiere next year and how wonderful it would be to go and see them all. If you gave away an Annual Season Ticket to the Movies, think of the joy and happiness you give away to someone who has the chance to see whatever movie they would like to see. And if yourself got one, think of the joy and happiness you are given!

Someone who has been given the Annual Season Ticket to the Movies has also been given the opportunity to escape reality for a second (or, to be specific, a couple of hours), to lean back and be swept away of all the exciting stories and the fascinating characters that are displayed on the huge screen in front of them, and to also have the top quality sound that cinemas allows.

The Annual Season Ticket to the Movies also gives the achiever of it the chance to go and see movies that they maybe not have much knowledge about, or that they might think they won’t like. They have the chance to broaden their minds when it comes to movies; they have the chance to discover new favourite genres that they would not have watched if it had not been for the Annual Season Ticket to the Movies. Now, they do not have the excuse to not go and see a movie because they do not have the money. Now they can watch whatever movie they want to, without even bother about the price.

The Annual Season Ticket to the Movies will not only benefit the receiver of it, but also the movie business. The opportunity that people are given to go and watch as many movies they want to will broaden the audience of the movies so that small movies also has a chance to be recognised.

You see, there are no arguments to not making the Annual Season Ticket to the Movies the Christmas Gift of 2010, there could only be good things out of this. So, go get the Annual Season Ticket to the Movies you all!

Assignment 2.

Why do so many young people overuse Red Bull and similar beverages?

Beverages such as Red Bull and other energy drinks have become very popular among young people nowadays, especially among teenagers. This popularity of energy drinks has results in an overuse of them by teenagers, which has lead to the consequences of banning them or putting and age-limit on them, which in its turn is not very popular among the young people consuming it. This overuse raises the question: why do young people tend to overuse energy drinks such as Red Bull?

Firstly; young people today are under a lot of pressure from school. Students in High School, and even in Junior High, have a lot of assignments to be done with and tasks to struggle through in achieving the grades and the satisfaction that they want, and need. All these tasks take up much of their time and they might think that they have not enough time doing it, which will lead to students being awake at night trying to keep up with their work. This is where the energy drinks come in handy. Teenagers start to drink these liquid energy boosts in their attempt to keep awake, both during night and during the following school days.

Secondly; it is not a secret that today’s teenagers are very interested in technology such as computers, internet and cell phones. This technology is something that tends to keep them up at night when they are supposed to get some valuable sleep. The usage of energy drinks then give them the energy boosts that they lack from not sleeping, and helps them to stay up at night while chatting with some friends, and also to give them energy enough to struggle through the long school days that comes after an all-nighter.

Finally; like many other things today energy drinks have become an addiction of some sort to teenagers. They might have tried it once or twice because one of their friends drank it and then got “stuck” in the addiction. These energy drinks are the new “cool”, being seen drinking one would definitely increase the teenagers’ popularity among their friends. Then when the teenagers are used in getting the energy boost that Red Bull and other energy drinks give it will be a hard time to stop consuming them.

So, it seems like the overuse of Red Bull and other similar beverages depends mostly on teenagers’ lack of sleep. There are some other causes, such as “coolness”, but in the end it almost always comes down to the fewer and fewer amount of sleeping hours the teenagers of today get.

The inability to move low-cost electricity to consumers because of congestion on transmission lines brings with it costs similar to those associated with traffic congestion. The lack of transmission capacity in the eastern United States is estimated to cost consumers $16 billion a year in this region alone.

These two texts are examples of an informal and a formal text. The first extraxt is informal and this could be recognized as it includes a lot of abbreviations and contractions, the grammar is incorrect, the text has not been edited before it was published. The second extract is part of a formal text. There is no slang, abbreviations, or contractions in this text and it focuses on the issue of it, not on the writer. It is also written in Standard English.

The television of today is no longer what it used to be. A TV-show that used to be an hour long is no longer an hour, even if the programme listings say that they should be. This is due to the increasing time in commercials. The commercial breaks have increased with approximately three minutes over the last decade.

Informal

Today’s TV is crap if I was to compare it with the past. There’s too much commercials on it, no time left for my favorite shows! There’s no use looking at TV anymore, when the commercial is over I’ve already forgotten what I watched in the first place. Annoying. In two years the TV-shows will be 10 minutes with 50 minutes commercial in between. I hate commercials.
